About Me

Time to prove to you that I'm a real person! Sadly, it's probably not as interesting as the travel blog will be. :(

My name is Anna Lee, and I'm going to be an incoming third year at UC Berkeley. I am double majoring in Linguistics and Near Eastern Civilizations (so, the ancient worlds of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Sumeria, etc), as well as minoring in Music.

The activity I'm most involved with on campus is the University of California Marching Band, or Cal Band for short. I play mellophone, or the marching French horn since it's easier to say than to go through the whole, "What's a mellophone?" part of conversation (I think I gave up once and just told someone I played trumpet). I do play trumpet, as well as the piano and concert French horn, but that's not the point. Cal Band is a student run organization, and I help by arranging new music for the Cal Band to play and conducting a few Cal Band performances. I'm actually arranging one of the shows for the upcoming fall semester as I'm abroad.

Freshman year me in uniform. And with a mellophone!
This year's Cal Day. That's me! :)
I'm Korean American. My parents moved to America, so I guess that makes me first generation. Or was it second? I guess that depends on your definition; I usually go with the former. I'm probably exaggerating a bit when I say that my family is as conservative as they come, but at the same time, I'm probably not really exaggerating. They're the kind of people who group "open-minded" and "damn liberal" together in the same category, so you know, growing up thinking things like other races are cool and the gays are okay people wasn't easy. My parents definitely had qualms about me going to Berkeley, so imagine when I told them I wanted to go where they thought was "the most liberal place in the world". I'm glad they let me go, though.

In my spare time, I like to play video games, surf the Internet, and hang out with people (I guess that's a mix between social and fairly anti-social). I find that I'm mentioning Team Fortress 2 a lot. It's free to play now, so go!

I'm hoping to have a lot of fun on this trip!
